Compassionate, non-judgmental treatment for problematic eating behaviors
Perhaps you’ve been noticing that some unhealthy thoughts or patterns of behavior are negatively impacting your relationship with food. Maybe thoughts about appearance, body size, or weight are interfering with the ability to maximize nutrition and maintain consistent eating patterns, in order to fuel your daily activities and work toward optimal well-being. Or perhaps you have been managing disordered eating for some time and have been searching for a compassionate space to continue to identify your specific goals and make changes at a pace that is appropriate and sustainable. I’m passionate about helping clients improve their overall relationships with food, thus opening up more space and time to dedicate to other aspects of life.
General Approach:
I meet clients wherever they are in their processes of examining problematic and/ or self-harming behaviors when it comes to eating and other body-based practices. I encourage curiosity around ideas or assumptions about what one “should” be doing or achieving. Primarily through the lens of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we’ll explore the myriad cultural and social influences on conceptions of ideal body type and size and work towards cultivating increased acceptance. I aim to help clients foster increased trust in and respect for their bodies, acknowledging all that our physical bodies do for us each day. I also incorporate principles of intuitive eating, such as honoring hunger cues and respect for one’s body and genetic blueprint.
What else I offer:
I have a passionate interest in using food both to foster physical health and to enhance mood, energy, and productivity. I offer evidence-backed options and suggestions, while also paying careful attention to individual differences and dietary preferences and/or food sensitivities. I see it as part of my role to help clients sift through the often competing or contradictory messaging around which dietary practices are the “healthiest” or “best” practices.
I’m also happy to collaborate with a nutritionist, whenever there is a need for a dedicated space for nutritional education and an ongoing focus on meal planning and tracking progress towards eating-related goals.
